The Dark Crystal

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a 10 episode prequel series to the iconic 1982 film. It explores a rich world inhabited by a host of weird and wonderful creatures and characters!

I worked on the show as a CG Supervisor for 18 months, handling 350 shots across all 10 episodes. The project included a staggering 750 assets, with over 40 creatures and characters.

As pictured above, a significant number of shots required CG set extensions alongside several fully CG environments. I was also responsible for the establishing shots of the Castle of the Crystal, as well as all its interior shots. Other VFX tasks included adding CG tongues to the Skeksis mouths!

In addition to the environment work across the series, I helped create numerous CG characters, from the hero Gelfling puppets to Peeper Beetles and Garthim, a monstrous giant spider. These creatures were then brought to life by an expert rigging and animation team, whose work played a major role throughout the show.

The show involved over 1800 artists, with 400 based in London with 5 CG Supervisors sharing out the work together. It was an incredible privilege to contribute to a Jim Henson Company production, and an experience I will always remember.
